With so many fun and exciting things happening on Auburn’s campus, it can be easy to forget how lucky we are to go to a school that is so perfectly positioned in the quaint little town of Auburn in east Alabama. Outside of campus life, the communities of both Auburn and Opelika have so much to offer Auburn students! Read below to find out some of the exciting things happening in Auburn and Opelika right now and in the near future!
1. Bark in the Park
Date: March 20th, 2021
Time: 9:00 AM until 2:00 PM
“Auburn Parks and Recreation and the Lee County Humane Society will host Bark in the Park: An Event Celebrating Responsible Dog Ownership on Saturday, March 20, at Kiesel Park from 9 a.m.-2 p.m.
This FREE community event is open to all dog owners and their favorite four-legged friends.
Join Active Auburn as we kick-off the 9th annual Bark in the Park with a 3K for you and your furriest friends. Grab your running shoes and your perfect running “pawtner” for a doggone good time! The Tails and Trails 3K will begin at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 20th at Kiesel Park followed by Bark in the Park at 9 a.m.”
2. 2nd Annual Opelika Songwriter’s Festival
Date: March 26th - March 28th, 2021
Time: 5:00 PM
“The Opelika Songwriter’s Festival will entertain music fans at its 2nd annual celebration at multiple venues in the town's historic downtown. Rob and Jen Slocumb, a.k.a. Martha's Trouble (a husband-and-wife folk/rock duo and owners of Opelika recording studio/event center The Sound Wall) are bringing the new festival to life. The Opelika Songwriters Festival is a co-production of The Sound Wall and The Arts Association of East Alabama.
More than 30 singer-songwriters attended last year's inaugural event, from local acts to international touring artists, including Grammy Award Nominee - Shawn Mullins, Grammy Award Winner - Dan Navarro, Kate Campbell, Harpeth Rising, and many more.”
3. Opelika Art Walk
Date: April 3rd, 2021
Time: 1:00 PM until 7:00 PM
“Join Opelika Main Street at the Opelika Theatre Company for the first-ever Opelika Art Walk! Hosted at the downtown train depot, this event will feature live music, local art vendors, and an outdoor performance of Godspell by the Opelika Theatre Company.”
4. Monkey Park After Dark: Movie Date Night
Date: April 16th, 2021
Time: 8:30 PM
“Enjoy a date night at Monkey Park for a movie on April 16, 2021 at 8:30 p.m. Ages 18+ and viewer discretion is advised. This event is free and open to the public. The movie will be “Crazy Rich Asians.” Click here for more information."
5. Food Truck Festival at the Gogue
Date: April 17th, 2021
Time: 10:00 AM until 4:00 PM
“The CDH Foundation will host a Food Truck Festival on April 17, 2021. This Food Truck Festival will showcase local food trucks and we will welcome AU students and the greater Auburn/Opelika community to taste, eat, bid on silent auction items, and have fun for the family!
This event will benefit the Level II Nursery and Level III NICU at East Alabama Medical Center through the NICUnited Program of the CDH Foundation.”
6. BBQ 101 Class with Butcher Paper BBQ
Date: April 18th, 2021
“Butcher Paper BBQ is hosting a barbeque class with a day's full worth of activities!
Topics covered will include starting fires, fuel and cooker types, meat prep, spice rubs, sauces, wrapping, finishing, and serving. You will also get a first-hand demonstration on how to trim brisket and pork butts and how to break down chickens and trim ribs.”
7. 20th Annual Auburn Cityfest
Date: April 24th, 2021
Time: 9:00 AM until 4:00 PM
“Auburn’s largest free outdoor festival will be held on Saturday, April 24, 2021. Live music, arts & crafts, and fine arts vendors, children’s activities, food, and more! CityFest is FREE to the public and is a rain or shine event. 9 a.m.-4 p.m.”
8. “Air Play” by Acrobuffos at the Gogue
