Alpha Chi Omega
“My name is Megan Ondrizek and I’m from Burleson, Texas (even though I tell people I'm from Fort Worth). I am a Communication Disorders major, which is now speech language and hearing sciences, and I am hoping to go to grad school in the fall.
I got involved in IMPACT because of my Pi Chi, Colby McKenzie. She is one of the kindest, most genuine people and she has always made it her purpose to help others get where they want to be. I was able to go and volunteer with Colby at Carver Primary through IMPACT, and it was so much fun. We would go every week to play with the kids, help with their homework, and have a blast.
I decided to apply to be a project coordinator and it was one of the best experiences I have had at Auburn. I ended up being partnered at Joyland Daycare for a little bit and then Reading Is Fundamental. The community I found in a little tin box out in Opelika was phenomenal. They were some of the kindest people I have ever met and I ended up talking to my supervisor more than sorting books. She showed me the purpose behind reaching out and cultivating relationships with the people and the community around us. It is honestly one of my favorite things I have ever done.
If you are interested in getting involved with IMPACT, it is simple! All you have to do is hop on AUInvolve, click on the "Service" tab, and it will list all of our service opportunities for the week. When you find one that works for you, RSVP on GivePulse and show up!
Fun Fact: I’m doing research on infants in the NICU right now and it will be published this summer!
